Australian Women in Fishing

Community | Women’s Group

The AUSWIF Women’s Alliance is in its foundation stage, laying the first building blocks toward a united national voice for women in fishing. Its mission is to connect, support, and elevate women across all areas of the recreational fishing sector, with a strong focus on inclusion, leadership, cultural respect, and mental health. This first step is about listening, learning, and co-designing a future where women are empowered, visible, and central to shaping the industry.

WHO ARE OUR MEMBERS?

The AUSWIF Women’s Alliance is proudly made up of a growing and diverse group of women who are actively shaping the recreational fishing and tackle industry. Our members, customers, and participants so far include passionate recreational anglers, tackle industry professionals, charter operators, traditional owners, artists, youth leaders, and community advocates—each bringing unique knowledge, culture, and lived experience to the table.

WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS?

We are working together to create a stronger, more educated community for women in fishing by sharing knowledge, building peer networks, and providing hands-on learning opportunities. Through mentorship, cultural exchange, and education sessions with industry leaders, we’re breaking down barriers and making fishing more inclusive. Together, we’re empowering women to lead, learn, and support one another—on and off the water.

WHY THE GROUP EXISTS?

The AUSWIF Women’s Alliance is needed because women in the recreational fishing and tackle industry have been underrepresented, undervalued, and often overlooked. Many face barriers to entry, lack access to training, and feel isolated – especially in rural and remote areas. This Alliance creates a space where women can connect, learn, and lead. It’s about recognition, support, and building a more inclusive, culturally respectful and mentally healthy fishing community for current and future generations.

HOW WILL THIS WORK?

We will achieve this through industry-led initiatives that support women who want to excel in the recreational fishing and tackle industry. By partnering with stakeholders tackle companies, charter operators, and community leaders, we’ll provide training, hands-on experience, and mentoring opportunities. These initiatives will build confidence, boost skills, and open doors for women to step into leadership, business, and innovation—ensuring the next generation of women in fishing are supported, seen, and set up to succeed.
