NSW Women in Recreational Fishing
Community | Women’s Group | NSW Fisheries
WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS? The Facebook group supports participation in recreational fishing by creating an inclusive and safe space for women to ask questions, provide and seek advice, and share photos and fishing stories. Members can access opportunities like local workshops, events, and meet-ups. We highlight female role models in fishing and offer regular giveaways, practical tips, and inspiration to help women gain confidence, build skills, and feel supported throughout their fishing journey.

“Fishing is more than just a sport or hobby; it’s an incredible and immersive experience that reconnects you to nature and taps into your inner hunter-gatherer instincts. It’s a way to escape the busy world and immerse yourself in the calming beauty of rivers, creeks, and oceans. Fishing teaches patience and is thrilling and rewarding, whether you release your prized catch or enjoy it as a meal. The NSW Women in Recreational Fishing group is breaking down the stereotype that fishing is for men, creating an informative, inspiring and inclusive environment for new and current female anglers who share their fishing adventures and experiences as well as provide encouraging support.” Mel Spikes
“Fishing has truly changed my life. It’s given me opportunities I never imagined — it’s built my confidence, challenged me to grow, and helped me discover a strength I didn’t know I had. What’s made it even more meaningful is the community. Being surrounded by strong, supportive, and like-minded women has made all the difference. Together, we lift each other up, break down barriers, and prove that fishing isn’t just for the boys — it’s for anyone with passion and determination.” Kyria Weir
I love this group because it is all positive in a world that constantly seeks to judge and focus on the negative. I have learned so much about fishing from the group members and have grown in confidence both personally and in my fishing experiences. I have also made some new fishing friends! Alexandra Davis
