BLUE LURES PROGRAM

Blue Lures is a QLD Blue Light initiative, a registered charity since 1984, committed to supporting young people under 18 through early intervention programs and activities. Blue Lures reaches at-risk young people by delivering fishing-based activities directly to regional and rural communities across Queensland, making the program accessible where it’s needed most. Through these activities, the program fosters strong, positive relationships between young people and local police, encouraging personal growth, resilience, and the creation of safe, supportive environments. What sets Blue Lures apart is its hands-on approach and dedication to engaging with young people in their own communities, ensuring lasting impact and support for those who might otherwise miss out.

WHO IS THIS PROGRAM FOR:

Blue Lures is an inclusive initiative designed to engage youth under the age of 18 and foster positive relationships with local law enforcement in a welcoming and secure environment.

WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS AND WHY GET INVOLVED?

Blue Lures is an inclusive initiative that engages young people aged 8-17, while fostering positive relationships with local police in a safe, welcoming environment. Using fishing as an enjoyable and hands-on way to engage young people who may benefit from additional guidance or positive social activities, while also supporting their mental health and emotional wellbeing.

Through structured, supervised fishing sessions, participants develop new skills, build self-confidence, and form constructive relationships with both peers and police officers. The calming nature of fishing encourages mindfulness, reduces stress, and provides young people with an opportunity to slow down, reflect, and engage in open conversations. Alongside these benefits, the program promotes key life skills such as teamwork, patience, problem-solving, and environmental stewardship.

Participation is encouraged through strong partnerships with local schools, community organisations and youth justice, helping to build awareness and trust. By delivering the program in regional and rural communities, Blue Lures ensures accessibility and local relevance. The hands-on fishing experiences support personal development, while the youth-centred, supportive environment ensures all participants feel respected, safe, and included.
